IIT Kharagpur, Amazon Join Hands To Develop Artificial Intelligence (AI) Portal

In an effort to promote the advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and learning opportunities, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has announced a partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to create a National Artificial Intelligence Resource Portal (NAIRP) platform, an official statement revealed.

Sudeshna Sarkar, the Head of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence at IIT Kharagpur, emphasized the growing demand for AI professionals and resources in society. She stated that the development of this platform would play a significant role in fostering the AI community in India.

NAIRP was initiated with initial funding from the Ministry of Human Resources Development, as an extension of the National Digital Library of India (NDLI) platform. Its objective is to expand the scope of NDLI to encompass AI-related resources, including educational materials, courses, workbooks, datasets, code, tools, and platforms. The forthcoming portal will offer search, browsing, learning, and computational services.

The platform will offer practical AI training opportunities to all AI learners, practitioners, and researchers in India through workbooks and cloud-based resources. Initially, it will utilize the AWS Cloud, with future plans to integrate with an in-house cloud infrastructure developed at IIT Kharagpur.

Bratin Saha, Vice President of AWS Machine Learning & Engines, expressed enthusiasm for collaborating with IIT Kharagpur on addressing complex challenges using AWS’s extensive set of machine learning and AI services. AWS has introduced over 200 significant machine learning capabilities in the past two years, making it well-equipped to support such initiatives.
